Universities/Research Institutes and Spin-Out Companies
Entrepreneurial culture is encouraged in all London universities and no less than 50 biopharmaceutical companies have been spun out (excluding medical device and imaging companies). As well, academia attracts substantial research funding from industry and a number of specialist research facilities are partnerships between universities and pharmaceutical/biotech companies. Imperial College London, for instance, has existing partnerships and collaborations with GlaxoSmithKline, Johnson & Johnson, Affymetrix and Invitrogen.
