London has some of the best universities in the world, three of them consistently ranked in the top 25: Imperial College London, University College London (UCL) and King’s College London (KCL). Collectively, these three universities have more than 20 Nobel Prize winners in Physiology and Medicine. Other excellent universities in London include The Institute of Cancer Research (a specialist college of the University of London system), Queen Mary University of London, St. George’s University of London and The School of Pharmacy. Cancer Research UK and the Medical Research Council also have their headquarters here in London.
The research output of these institutions is unmatched and provides industry with a wealth of in-licensing opportunities. Some of the most successful biotech companies in London also started from these universities and have either gone public or have been acquired by big pharmaceutical companies.
